Damn It! Just Stop It!!

Walking down an Indian Road, I happened to hear a criticism that India is never maintained clean & the Government is only fit for taking the bribes!! But, the thing is, what on earth have you done to even spell a word on the Government!?! Strangely, we love the 'Blame Game'. Something is not alright?; then it was "HE" who did that! Just point a finger to someone else & get out of trouble! How many of us are ready to actually Accept & Admit our fault!?! We keep saying Govt is useless...they never do this...they never do that... Aren't we forgetting that WE actually are the major part of the Government? The guys in the Government are your mere nominees to precisely solve your issues if any! If things are not working good, you can try to solve that issue! Remember, every time you blame the government, you are actually blaming you for selecting that very government! I am not supporting any part of the Government! All I say is, take the First Step to make a change, believe in it, & never ever talk low on the respect for the nation!

It is true that our roads are often littered & are not very clean. But who littered it?Who messed it up? It was you wasn't it? It was you who threw a waste wrapper or a paper out of a car/bus window. You wouldn't do that had you been in another country, would you? You would be at your international best behaviours & would have sense to never litter! Also, these smokers are very comfortable to throw their cigars just like that. The worst hell of a common act is the spitting habit! Somehow, we have got to make people realize that when you spit, you are actually spitting on your own self & your family! Well, we can't expect some Mr.Magic to swish his wand & make a cleaner India! That happens in a Fairy Tale & sadly Mr.Magic is missing & his wand is broken!

The whole point is, why can't you be a Mr.Magic? You don't need a wand for this! All you would need is just the guts to say, "Damn it! Just Stop It!" When every single patriotic Indian raises his voice, we can definitely bring a change! You see someone spitting, or someone littering the road or some kid begging in the signal or forcing you to buy a book because he's hungry, why don't we just say, "Damn it!Just Stop it!"!?!

My humble suggestion is, please don't ever give even a single paise to any beggar! You have a bleeding heart & can't leave without helping? Call the helplines & connect the kid with an ICCW or an old lady with some homage. Please don't encourage them giving money! Because every time you pay a beggar, you are encouraging that act & are seeding India to become the land of the Beggars! Once everybody stops using this concept of making money out of Sympathy, then these count on beggars would drop. So, even if you see someone paying a beggar, stop them! If they really have concern for another human being, then have a voice to say, "Damn it! Just stop it!" & ask them to take the beggar elsewhere to get the aids!

If anybody reading this have any suggestion to add on to this list of 'damns', please comment on this same! & if you'd like to join "Damn it! Just Stop it!", well, you are in! All you have to do is to start raising your voice against all such 'damn' activities!

Please do comment in case you have a point to include!

I believe ONE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

P.S.>>Why not we start voicing against these people who pay the beggars? All we have to do is 'educate' people that, when some1 pays a beggar, they are actually: a)Seeding another "Poverty" tree for India! b)Out of the amount that they assume to be giving as part of Karma: 30% go for Bad Habits;20% for food & 50% for Saving! So, literally you are partly aiding the Beggar to get into Bad Habits. c)It also means that the Beggar is smarter than you & you are stupid enough to pay him to become even more lazy! In other words, you are creating a few more Beggars to the country & making that as another Professional option for the Poor! If you really feel like helping a Beggar & also feel he's really having a miserable time, then find a shelter for him! Get him to the hands of an NGO. There are so many NGOs doing so much for them. They even tried a Rehabilitation Centre for them! But these Smarty Beggars, never really tried getting on! We can propagate this msg to as many people as we know! Just in a signal, if u see some1 paying a beggar, STOP him!Tell him the 3 reasons why he shouldn't! Once you start voicing this in the Public, then people are likely to listen & wake up. In the public, atleast 10% of those watching you might wake up & start telling others as well. Only when we take the first step will something progress. It's going to be useless to wait for the govt or someone else to take the initiative. Also, these voices here, are never going to be heard by them unless a Revolution Happens! If you are patriotic, Love India & want to help voice for the change :leave your comment as a voice of support!Lets make sure that another SlumDog Millionaire movie is NEVER made again! We, being into this NxtG, can make Miracles! You don't have to spend time/money for this! All you need is the GUTS! If everyone give a voice in the public, then people will start thinking & once we break the cycle of those who pay the beggars, then slowly the ones making it a profession start poofing off! Whenever a profession stops earning the 'bucks', that 'profession' starts becoming invisible! So, what do you say if we all put our hands together?

  1. Many a time we come across these kinda scenarios as mentioned,,but how often are we truly concerned about it???when every single soul try to accomplish self discipline by following the rules and regulations however tough it may be,i think it is certainly possible to make our country an environmentally better and safer place!!!!so damn our selfish attitude and stop it......,

I 2 believe ONE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

  2. I Agree with you that Common man has to change to keep the country and city clean, but the below are the pain points I see, if done right common man can take it much better.

    1. Who digs the road? Is it a common man / govt agencies? Why any digging of roads is not done in professional manner? I have seen RCom and Bharati also laying cables but the next day I hardly notice any change in the road. We need professionalism from govt. Agencies.

    2. Throwing waste paper - I am proud to say even when I was in India I never used to throw it on road. I used to take it with me to the nearest dustbin and drop it there, which is usually my office cubical. So, how many places do you see well maintained dustbins in India? Every bus, every train every street corner has a dustbin and it gets picked up regularly in NYC. The truth is you will not feel like littering around there. Do you think common man can fix it or, you need professionalism from govt agencies?

  3. @Ramesh: It is totally agreeable that this Professionalism is missing. But we can't bring about a drastic change over-night. It will evolve as the new generation steps in. I firmly believe, that lots of changes are due...With this First Generation of Internet powered youngsters, anything will seem possible. As for your questions:
    1) The government is the one which digs the road & NOT the common man. The work is not Professional, & takes a hell lot of time to get it done. This delay in time is (In my opinion) because of over-staffing. It's like "Too many heads to instruct & too many held responsible". So, all that happens is like,"I am supposed to dig it, he's supposed to work on it, & some other guy is supposed to instruct me to close it again." So, there comes this lack of proper Supervision, which is also another common man. The Organisational Structure of the Government offices must be redefined. For that, we need a few sensible, sincere employees in the Government. If not, there must be some external Pressure ennforced on these Governmental employees. May be an NGO consisting of the ones concerned about it can be created. Should an NGO do only the "Save Life" works? Why not begin an NGO that gets the nerves of all slagging sluggish bone-heads who keep slagging away time & are not joining hands? There are plenty of ways we can change the way things work. But the only factor is, we don't have the time apart from earning our own living.
2)Believing in the bottom-up approach, if we firstly keep the 'Non-dustbin' area clean, we can talk about cleaning up that mess. Also, these employees of the Government work mainly for the salary, & are sluggish as told before. The solution could be the same as (1).

My point is, let us all be right on our part, not litter & not spit in a public spot. Then, we can start turning the Government around.

Also, about your happy note of not littering when you were in India: It is really nice to hear that. But how many people around you, did you convince to follow the same? How much did you spread your good habit? How many have you stopped from spitting/littering?
That is all I want to do. Convince people to start aiding India be clean & healthy, then make them convince the others as well. In that way, hopefully & may be out of fear of a few True Indian, people may start thinking twice before they do these 'DAMN' activities.

  4. i think 2 stop all these 'DAMN' activities if govt. takes a firm decision Indian roads will b clean in no time... but not blaming the govt. again and start convincing every person u c spitting on the road is also not pratical...
(i had tried 1ce and dont ask m wat happened) well then wat is a pratical way of solving this problem other than waiting 4 the govt. 2 do sth abut it...
well i think spreading awarness might work out...
not only among young brains of our country but every1..

  5. Rs 180 crore- that is the annual earning of beggars in India:
After a two year long survey, which has been published under the title "Beggars in Hyderabad", Dr. Rafiuddin found that there were 7.3 lakh beggars across India who earn as much as Rs 180 crore ( 45 million US dollars). The study put the number of beggars in Hyderabad at 11000 with a total earning of Rs 15 crore.
Though begging in punishable offence under the law but as long as people were there to give money, begging will continue. He revealed that the beggars spend only 20% of their earning on food and 30% on bad habits and save 50%.Even this huge amount of earning is not able to improve their condition as this charity and assistance is scattered and disorganizedInstead of giving alms to them we should strive for a permanent solution to their problems and for their rehabilitation. The beggars are not a problem but they are victims and a product of the shortcomings in our social system.

  6. There are some millionaires in our country and many million beggers!!

  7. When ppl are not able to meet their basic needs , only they beg mostly even if they r not handicapped . Its a better thought that they can be sent to homage but they are still " victims of the short comings in our social system " .
When we see a child begging on the roads we mostly sympathise and give them some money but this money will hold for her one day food the rest of the days ther arises a Question mark ? anyhow the child manages

why not shall we make the child towards a bright future bcz every child has a bright mind and strong spirit & determination which is needed ... The Best way is to help them to be educated so that the child will get a brighter future and will help others also . Its not only to say that beggars r the victims if we all join hands we can make these victims turn into a ppl of future INDIA !!

  8. So, what do u all say we take an oath as:
I will never litter/spit in public & will never pay a beggar. I will also raise my voice & educate those who are unaware of these activities.

  9. there was a beggar on my way bcl to home from the bus stop.he was there for very long time with a big plaster around his leg for several months. 1 day i asked him weather i could take him to the nearby hospital and he was like saying no.i insisted that he shld be taken but then he wasnt accepting.suddenly a scene was created at that place and ppl started lukin at me like i were a mad.not bothering i took him to the hospital and even b4 they could admit him, knowing he s beggar lukin at his appearence, they repeatedly asked me questions after questions and made me feel y the hell did i had to do that......
there s no prob if everybody in the world think like u.but thts not the case, and becomes difficult for inspiring ppl to do such sort of work.not that t cant be done, but u ll have to face hell lotta prob and humiliations.these stuff bog down the spirits of those good ppl and makes a mockery of doing good things.

  10. @Sethu: Very true. Even I have faced people giving me a horrified look. But the frustration within drives me to move on, without minding all the stares. People imagine that they are helping someone while they actually are NOT!!
